Roofs are typically designed to withstand Indianapolis wind damage, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t exceptions. Roofing that may not have been properly installed or are reaching their lifespan may be subjected to a higher probability of damage from strong winds. Other factors to way in are shingles taking a beating from flying debris during a wind storm. Like hail damage, these symptoms are not always easy to spot, especially from the ground.
Depending on the way the wind blows and the shape or location of the roof, there will be negative pressure (suction) or positive pressure (pushing). Either way, when wind starts moving materials, like the membrane itself or the shingles, it becomes a problem.
Any spot where the material is even a little loose, the suction of the wind can raise that shingle, exposing the underside of the roof. Once the shingle has been raised even slightly, the damage thereafter is exponential as the wind continues to push up on the lifted shingle. Even minor failures in these roof components can leave your home unprotected from the elements, leading to costly repairs from water damage, mold and rot down the road.
With Indianapolis wind damage, the problem starts small and grows through repeated wind cycles, usually over time. The best way to avoid major problems is to inspect your roof regularly and repair the shingles while an Indianapolis roof repair is still an option. If you don’t address the issue quickly, future wind cycles will create damage beyond repair, resulting in the need for a total roof replacement.
When inspecting the roof for Indianapolis wind damage, we will be looking for more than just areas where shingles have been raised, cracked or blown off. We’ll also be inspecting for damage caused by debris that has blown onto or across the roof. Wind-blown debris can additionally cause clogs in your gutter system which can back up and cause additional water damage. If you have not had an inspection during the past 6 months, or feel that there could be damage to your roof, call us for a free inspection.
